This weeks wedding was epic, well it really was epic for lots of reasons and we had the most amazing day as I am sure did everyone. We were contacted a year or so ago by Liam a guy who we knew from several weddings and was one of our biggest group of wedding friends. Let me explain, We have lots of people we have met over the years and lots of those become great clients, some become friends and some become great friends, some even become our closest friends like Ian and JoJo who we love dearly 🙂 Its such a fab way of earning a living, anyway I digress! this group of friends started many years ago when we met the Piller’s aged about 2. They eventually grew up and we did the weddings and one of the Piller’s married another friend of ours Danielle so the group started and grew and grew and grew….
Liam had met Liliya whilst they worked on the cruise ships and they fell in love, Him a southampton boy and her from the Ukraine so wedding planning was interesting to say the least.
Yesterday arrived and there was a certain buzz about the day, not least because some of our “big group” were at last Fridays wedding and some were at last Saturdays wedding, honestly this is a huge group and we have done a ton of their weddings its just awesome. We started our day with Liliya and when we arrived the video guy “Josh” was already there with enough equipment to film spring watch OMFG ! fortunately after a chat and a few gently prompts it was all good and he was very respectful although I am still pretty sure Josh was only about 12 he was great company. Liliya was buzzing around with the other girls and everyone was talking Ukraine 🙂 we had a lot of fun and took some great details and about 11:50 I told Liliya that we would likely miss the dress shot due to timings, with that she promptly put on her dress 🙂 job done and we headed off to St Edmunds to meet the boys.
We arrived and parked easily and alongside the Piller’s and Jamie and Chloe who’s wedding we are shooting in September and we grabbed some lunch before meeting the boys for a few relaxed shots and of course some details.
We all then headed into church ready for the 1pm ceremony. It was at this point that Sue recognised a lady from my mums funeral last week and came to tell me, It was my Aunty Joyce (not really an aunt but a very close friend of my mum) I went and chatted again which was lovely and she explained she was related to Liam, As the ceremony was about to start I told her I would catch up later but then the priest came over to me and said “liliya would be 20 minutes late” so I wandered back to Joyce and found out that Liam was her grandson. WAIT that means I know his dad so I headed off to find little Robbie a real blast from the past and we caught up for a bit although to be fair he did look a little dazed at that point.
Liliya eventually turned up after a knuckle biting 50 minutes but she was worth the wait. She looked divine in her dress alongside her Mum in the Rolls Royce I almost shed a tear myself, relief I think haha
Into the church and the ceremony begun and as always at St Edmunds it was beautiful and quite touching, I love how the Catholics look at the world and religion too even tho I am nor catholic 🙂 After the ceremony we all headed outside for some lovely hugs and kisses photos and a sort of confetti shot 🙂 we were now over an hour late and the car driver was getting a little tense but I explained to him that once we left it was only one more stop for photos so all good. I suggested we head to Bishop waltham to the ruins for photos which although was quite a way from southampton it was quite near our venue so we headed there for some beautiful but hurried portraits. The problem with being an hour late so early on is everything suffers no matter how hard you try.
We then headed back to New Place where the guests were already enjoying the Pimms in the sunshine and after a quick drink we headed straight into family shots which were fun and interesting with the language issues but lots of laughter so all good. Robbie got lost so was missing until dinner time, I seem to remember this was normal for him as a kid…. We then went into dinner and Sue and I joined them because we knew about 60% of the wedding. We sat with our friends Jess and Victoria so fab, I also sat next to a chap who I randomly started chatting to in the Apple Store a week ago, such a small world 🙂 The food was just as good as the company and Sue and I managed a few shots of the magician as well as some lovely table shots too before the speeches came around.
We knew speeches were going to be fun, firstly there were extras because of the Ukraine guests and then there was Piller ! The first few speeches were heartfelt and loving and I kid you not lots of tears and then came the best men ! OMG they tore poor Liam apart and continued to do so for almost an hour it was an odd experience, On the one hand you could not help laughing but in the other you felt so sorry for Liam and at this point we were about 90 minutes late it was already well past the 8:00 dance time and the band had not even setup.
After the speeches we headed back outside to photograph a couple of groups with Robbie in before we lost light and at that point we decided against setting up our funtime. We normally do this before the evening guest arrive when its quieter but they had all been there for 90 minutes so there was no room at all but to be fair the day flowed nicely without it so we hit the sweet trolly again whilst waiting for the dancing.
We cut the cake and went straight into the first dance. Just like the rest of the day it was pretty epic and Liam and Liliya danced beautifully together. Again the room was silent and just watched this beautiful couple glide around the dance floor. Beautiful.
After a couple Songs Sue and I said our many goodbyes and headed home. We arrived home at about 11pm our latest for a while but also very happy knowing that 2 of our friends had a wonderful day and a perfect start to married life.
Thank you to all of our friends old and new for the most amazing day again. We love you all and cant wait to see you all again soon.
