Andy and Kimberley get married at Rivervale Barn

On what was a very cold and snowy Easter weekend we joined Kimberley and Andy for their wedding on the Saturday which was help at the lovely Rivervale Barn in Yately Nr Camberley,  Sue and I are very lucky in that we travel all around the UK photographing amazing weddings and one of our favourite venues of late has been Rivervale Barn, the light is amazing the grounds are just beautiful and together this makes for the most amazing wedding venue.

We started our day with Kimberley and the girls in the preparation bedroom for some lovely relaxed detail shots as well as Kimberley stepping into her beautiful wedding dress.  We then met with Andy and the boys, Andy, Andy, Andy and Liam,  yeah it was confusing:-) It was not too long before the harpist started playing and we were led into the ceremony room, First the bridesmaids and then our beautiful bride who looked simply breathtaking. As her Daddy walked her slowly down the isle she never once broke her gaze from Andy, it was so romantic and the silenced room just watched and watched.  After a lovely ceremony we headed back into the main barn for drinks and nibbles and then out into the chilly courtyard for family photos which we finished pretty smartish:-)

We then took Andy and Kimberley out into the gardens for some portraits where it was just starting to snow,  can you believe it Snow at Easter !!! thankfully it never came of anything and after a few lovely and very well planned portraits we headed back into the warn and into the beautifully decorated wedding breakfast. After a wonderful wedding breakfast and some rather emotional speeches we setup our Funtime fotos which is our wedding photo booth and we started the fun:-) we broke away to photograph the cake cutting which was a selection of lovely cupcakes and a top tier of lovelyness all covered in the most amazing sugar flowers. Then out to the Band for the first dance then back for the last hour to finish our Funtime before Sue and I said our goodbyes and headed off home after a very long but so much fun wedding day.

It would be wrong if I never game a massive shout out to everyone for making the day so much fun but none more that Andy and Kimberley,  cold and snowy goes so well with those warm and wonderful smiles.  Thank you X

Published again, we are both very proud

A few weeks back we were contacted by digital photographer magazine who wanted to publish an article about JpWorkshops and our One-2-One training days and needless to say we were very excited,  Apparently the buzz had got back to one of their reporters who came along with a photographer to follow us through one of our One-2-One workshops on Portraiture,  They contacted Matt Hardy from Mathew hardy photography who is already a photographer and avid reader of Digital Photographer Magazine and Matt kindly agreed to allowing them to follow his day with us. Matt has already completed a JpWorkshops One-2-One when he started his photography business and wanted to get into Studio photography on a more serious basis so chose our very popular Portrait One-2-One workshop.

The Portrait workshop is a full action packed day starting at 9am and finishing at 5pm and will give you the perfect start to setting up your portrait studio or home visit service, Sue & I will show you how we create beautiful high key portraits either in our studio or on location at your clients houses using our portable studio which fits neatly into almost any car, we have a mini cooper and its fits a treat.

You will come away with a first hand experience on lighting for high key as well as low key if required, we will teach you about posing and having fun with your clients and most importantly we will show you how to creatively edit your portraits to produce beautiful photos just like we do, photos that sell very well.

Your day will include: The morning will be a brief introduction to lighting and location before our first model arrives, Our model will work with you (guided by us) for around 90 minutes at which point we will move onto editing and questions.

We will then break for lunch which we will supply. The afternoon will start with creative ideas for  marketing portraits before our second model arrives, she will stay with us for a couple of hours and will change cloths a couple of times. We will them move back to editing and processing so that you come away with a beautiful set of images that you took and we edited. You can use the photographs taken with both models to start your portfolio which will be a fantastic head start. you will also receive our ” Portrait actions” for photoshop.

Our courses are a little different than most professional courses on offer, you get training from 2 fully qualified and very popular photographers, Julian Porter LMPA and Sue Porter LMPA and we supply a range of models to suit your request’s where possible, these are always clients of ours and not models, It has to be said that any photographer worth mentioning can make a model look amazing on a bad day:-)but with a “regular” person you have to work at it and we want our clients to work at it and not think everybody poses like a model and is easy to shoot,  models are amazing to work with but they make our life too easy, clients demand amazing photos and thats what keeps us striving for better all of the time. We want our JpWorkshop clients to leave feeling the same.

For Matt’s day we used the lovely Kayleigh,  she is our daughter:-)and manages a Costa Coffee shop for a living so with her long shifts we rarely get to photograph her but luckily she was free so Matt got a lovely client to photograph and Sue and I got some amazing photos of our daughter, thanks Matt:-)

We offer a huge range of workshops from an evening taster to see if you like our style or if you just want to brush up on settings through to a full 2 day intense business and portrait workshop. All of our workshops are bespoke and we can set a plan to suit your needs and concentrate on what you need rather than what we think you need and details can all be found on our website hampshire photography training by Julian Porter

Hampshire photography workshops by Julian Porter

On Sunday Sue and I ran one of our very successful One-2-One workshops for a budding photographer Pamela Park who wants to make a living shooting portraits. Pam booked our Portrait workshop which is a full and very intense day starting with the basics working through to setting up studio lights and moving on to shooting for a full day.  On Sunday we had 3 lovely young ladies modelling for us, Ella and Molly in the morning and Hollie in the afternoon,  we choose not to use professional or even amateur models for these days because its just as important that our clients get used to working with real people:-)rather than experienced models who move and pose perfectly.  After our first shoot we chatted about the lighting and then moved onto Lightroom and Photoshop for some editing, already Pam had trouble containing her excitement as the images loaded, she truly did take some beautiful photos which we started to edit.

After lunch our second “model” for the day arrived and we set to work photographing Hollie using several different backdrops and lighting and had another hour of fun, we then moved onto editing again and this time Pam did 90% of the editing working within our famous “1 minute edit” and she produced some beautiful work as you will see here. After our editing we moved back to chat about the day and a quick Q-A session before Pam left with a head that was buzzing:-) Job done…

Pam arrived with a Canon 450D and both kit lenses as well as a 50mm 1.8  and her work will be available soon on her website

These photos were all taken by pam and most were also edited by Pam, except for the last one which is Pam at work. also you will see I crept into one:-)

Photography workshop in southampton

Yesterday we took Gareth to Beaulieu for his One-2-One getting to know your camera workshop and we had a great day.   We met Gareth and his now wife Genevieve when we shot his wedding back in September 2008. Last year how lovely wife Genevieve called to buy a Workshop Gift Voucher for Gareth which he used yesterday,   We started our day with a couple of hours in the studio going over his Canon 450 camera and how to get the best from it, we then headed to Beaulieu which is fast becoming a popular workshop venue for us during the winter months:-).  We had a great few hours at Beaulieu showing Gareth how to shoot in low light and also how to compose and crop in camera.

After Beaulieu we headed into the forest for a few landscapes which was fun and then back to the Studio for an afternoon of editing and shooting Gareth how to best present his photographs.

Here are a few photos from the day,  My favourite is the 5th photo that Gareth took of the Merc with the lights behind although it was hard to decide because he took so many great ones.
