Another fab Wedding by Jules & Sue

May the 4th be with you……….

Ok cheesy title 😂 but anything but a cheesy wedding day for Matt and Jean on May 4th this year, yes Star wars day!  We met Matt and Jean at a wedding a couple of years ago, you might remember I raved about that wedding back then, not just because it was a lovely day at Rownhams House but because of the people. They were all Foster parents and the children were mostly fostered. Not only a humbling experience but for me a life changing one too.  I met this little lad Lucien, He suffered from several nasty life changing things including cerebral palsy 🙁 but he was the most energetic happy and well behaved little boy I have seen in a long time. It’s true to say I am a people person but this little lad melted my heart, I would have taken him home with me and I feel the same way 2 years on.  🙂

Lucien is Matt and Jeans, little lad……. See my rambling story was going somewhere.

Matt and Jean chose our small day 4-hour package, they were tying the knot at Southampton Registry office and then heading off in a vintage VW camper “Nellie”  to the New Forest Pub which is where the party was going to happen. After a short but lovely ceremony we all headed off to the New Forest pub in convoy, Once there we headed into the gardens for some sunshine and enjoyed an absolutely wonderful afternoon watching the children laugh and enjoy. Once again my heartstrings were tugged. Amazing to see so many children that started life in such a shitty way (sorry, not sorry) having just the most amazing day and life. There are a couple that deserves a proper mention. My little man Lucien, OMG what a complete gorgeous dude, he has grown into a superb little man and walks and gets around just like everyone else now, That’s a Big deal if you saw him a couple years ago. And Jimma,  Again such a massive improvement and so blooming confident too, Matt and Jean, Tracey and Simon you should be so very proud.

After a couple hours on the lawns we came in for the speech, just one, heartfelt and proper just like speeches should be, The kids started dancing and singing haha and the adults took advantage of the setting sun and the New Forest Pub’s blankets too whilst they waited for the BBQ to be served.

Sue and I headed home. Although a short wedding for us, it was again a very special day filled with awe-inspiring people and I feel richer for having met them. I absolutely love what I do but as it goes it pales compared to what some people do in the “goodness stakes”

TOP wedding and TOP people, thank you, Matt and Jean, for letting us be part of your journey.  Much love to you and your wonderful children.

May the force be with you X

Mark and Lydia get married

Last year Lydia and Mark contacted us after a recommendation from one of our running pals Carolyn. We met up and spoke about their wedding and booked it in.  They were getting married in a beautiful church in Lower Woodford in Salisbury and best of all the ceremony was being led by a family friend.

Fast forward to last week, We have had several meetings and a million emails and the big day was approaching. I had a call from the vicar “Jo Naish” firstly I was a little worried if I am being honest, normally if vicars are wanting to chat with me it’s to read me the riot act haha, but this was a different phone call, It was all about Mark and Lydia and what we could do as a team to make their day even better, WOW, just WOW, Christianity as it should be, the big fella upstairs would be very happy, I am 100% sure of that.

Saturday arrived and Sue and I headed to the church, Mark and Lydia chose our “older short day” so we started at the church and finish after speeches, We met the lovely vicar Jo, and took a few shots of the beautiful church and guests as they arrived.

When Lydia arrived I was genuinely lost for words. She looked absolutely amazing and full of confidence. Funny but so not what I was expecting 😃 Into the church and a truly beautiful and enjoyable service.  Afterwards, we spilt out into the sunshine for a few photos at the church and then the confetti line.

Sue and I then took Mark and Lydia to a family friends gardens for some photos, this was an amazing space and we had a lot of fun. After some lovely photos, we headed back to Grassmere house for the reception.

Lots of drinks and canapes on the terrace and a few more photos on the lawns before we were eventually called into dinner. Sue and I chilled out whilst dinner was served, generally chatting about how great the day had gone and just how wonderful it was to be part of an amazing family wedding. We are so blessed with our job and I count my lucky stars every day.  After dinner came the speeches.  4 speeches and lots of fun and laughter from them all.  Sue and I said our goodbyes and left the wedding to enjoy the evening, although to be fair it was 10 pm so not much time for dancing, Who cares tho, it was a super chilled, proper family wedding filled with amazing people.

Special thank you to Jo Naish, if my faith needed any reinforcement then JOB DONE!  Mark and Lydia, WOW you guys are amazing and I loved sharing your most amazing wedding with you, Thank you. And everyone else for smiling in the right places 🙂 you make my life easy and enjoyable. X

Zachary’s amazing journey

A year ago we were contacted by Caroline and Bernard about their little lad Zachary who was then a couple weeks old. They were referred to us by our wedding clients Kate and Doug. Caroline explained that Zachary had a fairly normal birth but soon after things went drastically wrong.  Sue and I were moved and offered a free portrait shoot for them to cherish, hoping that they would also have Zachary to cherish but back then it was not looking hopefully.

This morning I asked Caroline for her thoughts and story for this blog post, Instead of me writing my events I will copy Caroline and Bernard’s words below:

“Zachary was born on 21/03/16 and we had no idea there was going to be anything wrong, all scans had been clear. At 1 day old they noticed a heart murmur but said loads of babies have them. Then he stopped feeding properly and was breathing far too fast. They did a scan and told us he had aortic stenosis and a unicuspid valve. This causes the blood flow to be restricted around his body. He also had a hole in his atrium and his ventricle. At that point they said they hoped the holes may heal themselves and the stenosis was mild. Three weeks later they scanned him again and the holes had reduced but this revealed the stenosis was extremely severe. They told us then they would need to do open heart surgery asap.

They did the surgery when he was 12 weeks old. Ocean award at SGH and PICU both deserve a mention for being amazing! He is now just 13 months (yesterday) he has his next cardiac review at the beginning of May but we have had 6 months of freedom as last review was very positive. After previous op they gave us a window of 2 weeks to 2 years before he will need next surgery. That will be an even bigger op which is terrifying. It will call for them to swap his aortic valve for his pulmonary valve and replace that with a donor valve.

You deserve a mention. Our wonderful families, his Godparents Sophie, Marika, Jane, Mark and Rob and my midwife Katherine who has become a brilliant friend and been incredibly supportive. This has shown us who our real friends our, taught us how to make the most of every day with our amazing baby boy and introduced us to wonderful people like you and Sue! X”

On Friday we did a follow up shoot. OMG what a difference, Zachary is a wonderful energetic little boy who is just full of life.

If you ever feel down, read Caroline’s words above and remember there is always hope.

Its been an absolute honour for Sue and I to meet, photograph and get to know this amazing family. #friends

One of my favourite days………

Yes I know we all moan about losing an hour last night and Sue and I were woken at 6 am, or was that 5 am, 7 am God knows, but we were up bright and early for this year’s first tt race for me and it marks an amazing and exciting time of year for me.

First and foremost from here on in, we get lighter evenings which means we can have so much more fun at our weddings and of course late afternoon and evening portraits. The Spring days are filled with so much promise and anticipation.

We have an amazing diary of weddings again this year and we are both really excited, a few really special ones too, for instance, Sarah and Steve, good friends of ours, Andy and Sophie, great friends, Chris is marrying Noel, he is a very long term great friend of ours and so much more. Lots of our couples celebrating 10 years WOW including Nick and Morwenna and we will surely see them for a shoot and so much more.

Our workshops also take on a new step into spring, our Durdle Door workshop is always popular at this time.

On the personal note, this week see’s us launch our Cycling club which has been a personal ambition of mine and I will run it with a few options like cycle maintenance and fitness classes which will run alongside Julian porter photography just perfectly and it’s all very exciting. Cycling and Fitness, in general, are booming and, personally, I absolutely love it and its done so much for me bot physically and mentally.

I hope you are all looking forward to being a part of our 2017 🙂 it’s going to be one of our best years yet.

Giving a little back

As most of you know, Sue and I do a great deal of work for Tesco, mostly charity related and thios past 6 months we have been travelling to the North Harbour store a lot and working with the community champion Mandi.

We meet a lot of Tesco staff and Mandi is alweays uber helpful and friendly towards us so when she reached out to us for help we were more than happy to help.

Mandi told us a story about a girl called Kayleigh who was being looked after by the amazing PICU in Southampton and how she wanted to organise a fundraiser to help the PICU. Sue and I immediatly offered our services for free to help this great cause.

Sue and I do quite a bit of charity through the year either through our Photography or our Cycling. Both we are very passionatte about. Our chosen charity is generally based around Diabetes. You can read my story on my personal Blog Here, but we are always happy to make an exception for our friends like Mandi.

We travelled to Tesco North Harbour just in time for the fun to start.  There was face painting, singers, a huge choir and all manner of things going on. We had such great afternoon.

Mandi you should be very proud of what you achived. Nothing short of awesome.
